1...2...3... i dno how many rolls!
i was looking for this video quite a while back! when i read it in the news paper, i wouldnt go in that car, its stupid its like a 2000hp car and its just forcing that much power to the ground your gonna need alot better shape of car to control that!

He would have been just fine had there been a much longer runway for him so that he didn't have to rely on the parachute, which is what caused his car to veer off track in the first place.

MEh. The runway is long enough TBH.

Also, parachutes work fine slowing down vehicles at much higher speeds, with shorter runoff areas:

I don't know how many of you have parachuted but when that chute pops it is a huge jerk on your body. It is not pleasant. That is why it's stressed that all your rig be very snug because if anything is loose....You don't want to know that pain. So imagine the difference from a man falling to a car driving at 300mph when that big chute pops and catches air. I am actually surprised that I don't hear this at almost every race. I don't even understand why they have not found a better way to slow the cars than this method.

Because its the most simple way to slow down a race car at this point, plus it's just suicide taking a car that was meant for about 180mph and slapping another 1500hp onto the engine making it go 240mph. All cars that use parachutes are aerodynamically designed for this the day the roll cage is pieced together. I know there are some amazing vehicles in the world suck as this Lambo, but it just wasn't meant to go that fast and anybody who would do something so vial to a great piece of work that is something special already is crazy.

You don't really know anything do you...

The parachute came off the car. that was a failure of the rig holding the chute to the car, not the chute causing the car to wiggle. Deaths in the NHRA are not that common when dealing with parachutes working when they deploy. Deaths revolve around the parachute being damaged. I dont think ive ever heard of a parachute causing a death when it opened properly, which is essentially what youre describing. Majority of deaths revolve around the car losing control during the run, the engine exploding, rear wing coming off, etc. Although i do agree that some tracks do need longer runoff areas (english town)

@Pred: Its because theres no other way to stop a car going 300 MPH in a short enough time. Although, you being the entrepruener you are, im sure thered me a lot of money to be had if you found a better way, although i get 10% for giving you the idea. Very Happy
