PostSubject: Clean pass or dive bombing?   Tue Dec 13, 2011 10:54 am

I have a question about on track etiquette.....Last night I pulled a move in practice which has me thinking I may not have been clean.....I was running down a Viper, Nosed in front on the inside and made my turn. The viper driver turned into me and we began discussing weather or not I took his line from him.... Another racer chimed in that I also did that to him at Infenion and this got me to thinking maybe I was a "Dive bomber". If anyone is willing to watch the replay and inform me of my decision to attempt to make this pass would be appreciated. I am not sure how to post video so I will refer you to my SF (Hockenheim lap 2 turn 2 Ruf vs Viper.) all comments are welcome to make this rookie a better racer.

As a rookie myself, I may not have the best answer. I would consider that dive bombing, just because of how you are off the line and going so far inside on a corner that shouldn't be taken like that. I know I wouldn't try to make a pass like that unless the person in front of me went in too fast and ended up really wide. I don't see how it could end up clean if he stayed on line, which happened in this case. Just my opinion.

This won't answer your question, but I think it is awesome that you changed your pic to bombers for this questions....assuming that is what they are supposed to be.

I haven't seen the video but here is how I view late overtaking moves.

If a car brakes late and gets the majority of their car alongside the other before the corner, and is still able to hold their line through the corner it is generally fair.

If however you are diving into the corner after the other car has started turning in and you can barely stay on the track let alone the inside then that is definitely dive bombing.

If you take a late braking action and you get inside the car you are passing you need to be able to take the inside line of the corner and apex out safely. If you do it right the car you are brake passing just can't turn in and is forced to stay wide. It is a common race maneuver. To defend against this move is to either try to brake as late as possible to prevent the attempt or to take the inside line while braking. Both defenses have their pro's and cons. Just always remember it is the person who is passing that is responsible to make it a clean pass. The person being passed simply cannot make a last second block because this nearly always leads to an accident/crash. The person being passed can squeeze the passer but must leave room so the attempting passer can remain on the track. This move is best around only people you know that know how to race side by side cleanly because an inexperienced racer either trying the move or defending the move will almost always get it wrong.

Well I was the driver of that Viper and I agree with Panbot, which I told O351, and by the way this is by no way an argument, just trying to find out some information about the manuever. But with that said, after much discussin between myself and O3, and after O3 watched the replay from my cockpit view, which is the view I drive in, he realized that I couldn't see him from that view, although from an outside view he did get his nose out in front of me, which gave him the right away to the line. I didn't take offense to it and neither did he. My advice to anyone who does try this, is just to make sure that you clearly call out your position and don't assume that the driver will be able to see you because 9 out of 10 times, the driver being passed won't see you. But overall, a very good move in my book, not something I'll be trying anytime soon, but very effective when done right.

Thats why we say to let the person you are passing know what is going on. The only thing I think O3 did was not say Rox's I am on your right side . Also if you go into game view and look at the rear of O3 car you will see what not to do. 0Z almost took out my entire front end LOL LOL

You got to remember guys that a lot of us drive from in these cars. My vision is very little now on the sides w/o the extra xbox setup that is possible to set up.

If you don't call position, we can't see you a lot of times. I know I hit the side of sambinsky late at infineon in the first hairpin because I did not see his position on my left.

A lot of wrecks happen because guys don't see each other and don't call position. So knowing when to make the pass and communicating it as you set it up is most important.

This will only work if the person passing does not throw a block. I have not heard of this a ot so I think its minimal. The same cars lapping. Call it out so there is not a fight for a non position. When I look over at the distance counter I loose my focus so I don't look at it much except on the steight away. And if you are getting lapped MOVE! Its no benefit to either car to block.
